General
Troop 12 was established in 1982 and is charterd by a non-profit organization called "Friends of Troop 12".

Safety
Ensuring safety and making sure that every Scout is having a good experience is a primary job of the adults in the Troop. Troop 12 practices "Two Deep Leadership" and hazing is never permitted. And to ensure safety, Scouts must complete "Tote 'n Chip" requirements before using any knives, axes or saws.

Outdoor Activities
Troop 12 generally participates in monthly weekend camping trips (including spring and fall camporees), a week-long Summer Camp each summer, at least one High Adventure trip a year, Philmont Scout Ranch as often as possible (however trek availability is not under our control).

Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC)
Troop 12 is a boy run Troop. Planning of the annual Calendar, selection of camping locations, fund-raisers, etc. are accomplished by the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) and approved by Scoutmaster and the Troop Committee.

Parents in Scouting
All parents have an open invitation to attend any Troop meeting and are encouraged to go with us on campouts and will be the guest of the Chicken Patrol (the Adult Patrol). This invitation is extended to adults only, no other children are permitted; however, a family campout is generally planned once a year. These family campouts are always a lot of fun and an opportunity for families to share the outdoor experience with their Scouts. Troop 12 is one of the few troops that is "self sponsored", so parents and all other supporters are encouraged to join "Friends of Troop 12", the non-profit chartering (sponsoring) organization.

Fund Raisers
We encourage the boys to earn their own way in Scouting, so 70% of all profits earned through fund raisers (popcorn sales, Scout Show Ticket Sales, Aluminum can recycling, car washes, etc.) go into the individual accounts of those boys who participate. The additional 30% goes toward supporting Troop activities. Money placed in "scout accounts" can be used for anything Scouting related; such as, dues, camping fees, summer camp, high adventure, uniforms, camping gear, etc.

Adult Leader's Responsibilities
> Safety
> Coaching the members of the PLC
> Assisting the PLC in developing and honoring their leadership skills
> Suggesting new methods and skills that the Troop can learn and use
> Ensuring that the overall Troop program is in line with the aims and
   purposes of Boy Scouting.

Dues and Fees
Dues: $8.00 per month, paid quarterly in advance. Money collected for dues goes toward the annual re-charter, Boys Life, Awards and direct support of Troop activities.

Fees: Weekend camping trips generally cost $10.00 per boy, the exception being Camporees (twice/year) which charge an additional $6.00 per boy for patches and direct support of the Camporee.
